History

Gilbert was known as an agricultural community but is quickly transitioning to a more economically diverse suburb in the greater Phoenix area. Population of Gilbert has skyrocketed in the last 30 years growing from 5,000 to more than 200,000 as of 2010. Gilbert started back in 1902 when Willian Gilbert provided the Arizona Eastern Railway land to aid in the building of a rail line between Phoenix and Florence, AZ. Gilbert even had a brief period between 1911 and the late 1920s when it was known as the “Hay Capital of the World”.
